Haiti Presidential Election - Internet Polling

Scroll to the bottom to vote

Haiti's presidential election is only days away. With all the different polls showing different predictions, We have decided to do our own internal polling of Haitians on the internet and mostly living in the diaspora. With thousands of subscribers receiving our mailings an visitors to our site, we think that we could get a good feel of where the election is headed or at least who the top leaders are.

Even though this poll is a greater reflection of the diaspora preference, it may give an insight of what may actually happen on the ground in Haiti. It can also be an indication of the differences in views between Haitians at home and the diaspora

  3. She is #68 on the list above. I still did not get whether or not she is supporting dual nationality. I've heard her reflection on diaspora she met at the grocery stores in Haiti expressing themselves in languages they feel comfortable with, rather than Creole nor French. I am saying this not to discredit her rather to find some confirmation that she will be working toward getting us dual nationality before I vote for her. Baker will be my second choice on line if he is for dual nationality.

  10. I believe Haiti has so much pressing issues to deal with, waisting millions of dollars in election right now should not be the priority. We need to learn to classify our priorities.

  11. I want to see be achieved by a seemingly honest Haitian, a person with intellectual skills especially in political science and constitutional law, someone married to a "political animal" like Leslie Manigat, and finally a woman.

  12. Isn't that a shame we know so little about these candidates programs. There should be a website where one can go and find out about their programs before we should even consider casting a vote. Does anyone know if that exists?

  13. My choice is Baker because he is the only one that has a clear plan. He is an industrialist and has agricultural experience which he will use to create millions of jobs for Haitians. Security is another priority in his plan; we will never be able to attract investors and sustain job creation without stability in Haiti. Please see his interview. http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/10179766#utm_campaigne=synclickback&source=http://www.islandtv.tv/?p=144&medium=10179766

  15. First you need to post the candidates' background and their programs before you ask people to vote. Haiti has many unresolved issues(political, human, social, economic, financial, healthy, etc.)and you are asking people to vote without the candidates' agendas for the country. Now, if they do, list them here on this website before you ask the public to vote. Things have changed. The whole world is now watching and let's be serious.

  17. You have to be kidding or RU? Nobody wants to vote for beauty. People want to know what the candidates have in their mind for Haiti. Tell me what their goals are for the future of Haiti and I will vote. I find it unfair to simply post some names and picture and ask for my vote. Let us learn from great country like the U.S. and do things the right way.

  18. To Answer the duel citizenship questions: Per Baker's website, "Haitians Living Abroad - We intend to make Haitians living abroad, an integral part of the reconstruction in Haiti. Multiple nationalities will be a reality."

The goal of this poll is to only see the popularity of each candidate with the public. It is not our objective here to educate. With only days to go,our assumption is that each potential voter would have already done his/her homework and research to learn about the candidates before they make a choice. It's a very critical decision for the country that cannot be made lightly. So if that homework hasn't been made since the candidates were announced in August ,then it might be too late with only days to go. But you can still use technology to Google Search the candidates names to locate their websites and learn about their program.

NOTE: I suggest posters 'Use a Name or Nickname' to identify themselves rather than using "Anonymous". This way a reply can be directed to the person commenting.

  20. Thank you Sherly for the site, inasmuch I believe a woman would have done a better job, I cannot help to believe we need someone who would put emphasis on dual nationality inside its program for the country. I just visited Mr. Baker's site, I will take the advise of RockMasters above to search for Mrs. Manigat's site. I can honestly say, if I cannot find anything at this point Mr. Baker will get my vote and encourage everyone to take the chance with him as he has full experience and big plan for our Haiti.

  21. You can find Manigat's information on her political Party's web site:

  22. I've just been on Mrs. Manigat's site, I am kind of weary on its presentation, I could not find, locate the plan. If I must make a comparison with Mr. Baker's site which was more detailed and better presented, I could read on every sector his approaches, I'd say he has more ability to choose the proper people to surround him to get the job done, as you know this is not a one man job. What I read and heard of Mrs. Manigat while I was stationed in Haiti for a while lead me to believe she will take no part with the diaspora, she will however use what we can give but she will keep us out. Sad to say, because I really wanted, and believe a woman would be what it will take to change the course of things in Haiti, but one must be realistic, and exclusion is what we don't need, the country belong to all of us and need all of us. Giving all I read and lived through in Haiti my gut feeling is telling me to vote for Baker.

  28. I think Michel Martelly is the best fit at this time. He is open minded, passionate for his country, and has a new vision for Haiti. It is time to stop with stu quo, and people favorising their own clan. It is time for all Haitians to have a chance to dream and change their future. Michel Martelly is the only one who have the power to unify nèg anwò ak nèg anba. The other thing I like about Michel Martelly is that he is not lying about who he is, and assume everything about his past. I admire his courage to stand up despite of cricticism and tell the thruth, the reality of Haiti. I do not mind his past artistic career at all and I think he has more morale than all his opponents. Li di betiz men li pa fè betiz! Li pa touye mounn, li pa trahi mounn, li pa fè konplo sou do pèp la, li respekte mounn, li pa detwi lavi mounn, li pa volè kob, li se yon onèt sitwayen!

  31. Why so many candidates for one single election? It appears like the first Black independent Country is still seeking for freedom. This land needs all of us to work together and we need only one good leader to do so. Who is he???

  32. I attended the event held in Miami at FIU North last Sunday ; I was very impress with Laguerre views. He is direct and very strong minded.I felt the blood of the hero of the L'independance race tru my veins. I was not impress with Mirlande Manigat ; she is of age , she have good intention to repay the country for everything ;but I did not get a clear picture of what is it she is going to do.Dr Blot however is dreaming. At this stage in the game with more then on billion at stake I want a hero , not a selfish ,money hungry president;we as a people deserve better .I want to be pround to stand to anyone , and said yes I'm haitian and pround of it.

  33. why not give a try tu jude celestin .He is young and he used to do good job at CNE without almost no materials .He is a good technician , he know a lot about telecommunication .From the ground level in MINOTERIE d'HAITI he got on top by using his skills .And trust me he has the capability to unify duvalieriste and lavalas together ,which is the big challenge of the moment to get HAITI on the go . NOW IS THE TIME ,JUDE CELESTIN IS THE MAN and HAITI IS THE PLACE .WE CAN DO IT YES WECAN !!!

  34. The first time throughout our history we have the opportunity to give the country a chance to start about from scratch. So let’s go and do it! We need to do so with the right leader since we don’t want to miss the boat. Our devise is:”L’UNION FAIT LA FORCE” and it has been ignored and denied since the day after our Independence. To make it short, we do need someone which is willing and able to bring the people together, the people of different class (social, economic and politic), different color, different ideology, different mentality. We finally need that convergence to rebuild our country. We believe that human resources are fundamental to any society and our union is essential to our success. So I urge all my brothers and sisters, for this upcoming election, to think of and to vote for the “Perfect Union”, when the Duvalierist, the ex-militaries and the Lavalas will become one. Therefore, if we really LOVE HAITI we need to think of JEAN HENRY CEANT as our next president, someone that will lead the country to that reconciliation which remains the urgency of all time. It’s for our own good not the one of others since it is an opportunity “sui generis” to and about time to take over our own destiny.

    Thank you,

    Coty

  35. I will vote for the best and unselfih person who sees the country first. It is absurd and foolish to see so many candidates for fighting for one job. The whole world look at us as ridiculous, crazy, weirds good for nothing. The process is so flaw it's just plain silly.
