Nu System Grand Premiere - Sat. Nov. 20, 2010

This past Saturday, we were invited to attend the grand premiere of  Nu-System. Practically, a system band formed by most of the original System band musicians. What we saw was practically a revamped System band without their long time star Isnard Doubie. Explanation from the management of Nu-System to be provided below.

The Event was well organised and attended. The banquet room at the Adria hotel was close to full seating capacity. The $60 admission price included a Cocktail hour, Complete Buffet dinner and Open bar.

The Band made its grand entrance at 11:30 pm, as RockMaster was called upon to make the initial introduction. It was a pretty grandiose entrance as the band dressed in matching outfit entered the room to standing ovation by the public. Then the formal introduction by Roupie before the Band performance started. Two things were unique with the Nu-System presentation. The event started on time with the cocktail hour then the band was on stage as scheduled. Also the appearance of the band with white silk Shirts during the 1st half and returning with red & white (Compas Direct colors) after the break looked impressive. As one guest commented it looked like a Tropicana/Septen style of appearance. Something which can only seen as a compliment.

From comments that  I could hear by konpa critics in attendance and the public in general, there was a universal satisfaction of the bands performance. "Jaz la te sonnin bien".

Here are a few pictures and video from the grand premiere. Comments about the reasons behind the birth of Nu System will be posted below.

Comments from Nu-System management
Now for the reason that there is the split among the founders of the band after 34 years-
I will be fully reporting the statements of Defacto, who is part of the new management of the band. But his initial comments over the phone were as follow:
The musicians of the band had a meeting and taken a vote to dismiss the previous manager of the band. They were not happy with his performance as their manager recently. Supposedly Maestro Isnard Doubie did not attend the meeting and when he was informed of the decisions of the band members, he mentioned that he was not aware of the meeting did not agree with the decision. According to Defacto, the band members wanted him on their side.  But his decision was to side with the prior manager. Supposedly the musicians were disappointed and felt that Doubie was letting them down, so they decided to go ahead without him with the new name for the band "Nu-System".

Again this is from a short phone conversation I had with Defacto. I will get more details and also bring you Maestro Doubie's side of the story.

  1. I saw Maestro Doubie at Bouillon night at Brasserie last night and ask him for his side of the story.

His response was simply "No Comments". When I pressed him to either confirm or reject Defacto's explanation. He said that "By me speaking, I would only be giving importance to the other side, so no comments"

  2. So whats the future of the original System Band. It looks like there not much left for Doubie to work with. He must only be left with the other singers.

  3. This is a very unhappy event; the split of System Band into two groups. I hope, the guys will reconsider and find a way to reconcile. System Band has a long story of great achievements with pieces such as Anita, Loulou, Cesar, etc. I would like to remember the Great Band, not a bunch of petulant kids longing for independence and failure. Please give life back to "System Band". My call goes to Maestro Douby and the guys of "New System". It is easier to find another manager than to find another Douby. Grow up if you can! Reconciliation is definitely what must happen!

  4. If the musicians have a problem with the manager, why is Doubie not siding with the musicians. Why would he choose to side with the unpopular manager at the expense of System Band. Something funny that i dont get. Managers are always expendable if they are not doing the job. But a System band without Doubie has little chance of success. I agree with Unik

  5. BROTHERS, YOU NEED TO GROW UP. THERE WILL NEVER BE A NEW SYSTEM BAND WITHOUT ISNARD DOUBY. WHY HAITIANS ARE SO DIVIDED. THAT'S VERY UGLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO DOUBY. I WOULD ASK YOU MY BROTHERS TO RECONCILE WITH DOUBY AND I KNOW WITH THE HELP OF THE LORD JESUS YOU WILL. DO NOT LISTEN TO SATAN, HE LOVES DIVISION. I LOVE YOU AND I AM GOING TO PRAY FOR YOU. GOD IS GOOD. LOVE, FERNANDE

  6. Fernande, ou bien pale. Tout bagay haitien se division. Se sak fe nou pa ka rive.
Doubie, you are supposed to be the leader. So dont get involved in this nonsense or you all lose. Meet with Defacto and get this thing worked out. If the majority vote for a new manager, that what is to be done. We live in a democracy here

I have been to many of System Band's events and my feeling is that Doubie should just retire. He sings out of tune because his hearing is totally gone. The "Nu System" is on target with the music and there is more life to the band. I hope that with this new management the band can reach to the stars!

  8. Doubie should be careful not to let what happened with Cubano and Skah Shah to happen with him and System band. Since most system musician are with Nu System. Another Doubie System with new musicians will be 2nd class, just like the Cubano Skah Shah.
Since Doubie was already semi retired, and as Pana said, he should go to full retirement but with Nu System and his old comrades from decades ago who formed the band. He can always make guest appearances and still be part of management.
